About This Piece

Conception The painting began as a suggestion, my first religious work. I initially resisted the idea, yet the image refused to leave me. I had never painted a portrait. I had never painted skin, nor eyes. Its execution had to be done real time. To maintain focus, I withdrew completely. For twenty-eight days, I worked in an abandoned airplane hangar, painting daily for as long as I could physically endure. I rarely left. I slept beside the canvas. Everything was learned inside that space. Every mistake, every correction, every breakthrough happened in it. It remains my most difficult challenge and my proudest achievement. Composition This work was designed with a deliberate technical precision. The proportions of the canvas adhere to the Golden Ratio (1.618)(52” x 84”). Within that framework, the figure’s stance follows the Fibonacci progression, guiding from the hands to the eye. The same technique was used in the mona lisa and other historic works. Material selection was equally deliberate. The frame is constructed from walnut highly similar to acacia wood, the wood used in the creation of the Ark of the Covenant. Only professional-grade Windsor Gallery acrylics were used to maintain color integrity. Both the canvas and frame were custom-built by myself. Revelation The scene depicts Jesus in one of His most vulnerable moments, as his humiliation unfolds, as His love is rejected, He stands abandoned. In that moment, He speaks: “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34) Even in the depths of suffering, He prays for mercy on behalf of those who condemn Him. In the face of cruelty, He chooses forgiveness and compassion. The scene is not centered on brutality, but on love. A love that extends beyond the moment depicted and beyond the frame itself. He loved the world. He loved His Father. He loves you.
